Flag vs. Tackle Football: What Changes When You Track Stats

If you're coming to flag football from the tackle game, the stat sheet looks familiar, until it doesn't. The scoreboard still has touchdowns, but a lot of what you tracked in tackle either changes or disappears, and a few flag-only stats suddenly matter a lot.

Here's what's different, and why it matters for how you track.

The flag pull replaces the tackle

In tackle, you log tackles. In flag, the defensive headline stat is the flag pull, and it's not just a count. Where the pull happens, who's making them, and how often a defender gets beat tells you far more about your defense than a tackle total ever did. Deflections and interceptions round out the picture.

Yardage isn't always the point

Many flag formats are played on shorter fields, and some leagues don't emphasize yardage at all. That's why rigid, yardage-first tools made for tackle feel wrong for flag: they force you to track things that don't fit your game.

A flag-first platform lets you choose, game by game: full rushing, passing, and receiving yardage when you want it, or a stats-only configuration when you don't. You shouldn't have to fake yardage to make the software happy.

Formats change, the platform shouldn't

5-on-5, 6-on-6, 7-on-7, girls', boys', co-ed: flag football comes in more flavors than tackle. The stats that define a quarterback's day (completion %, passing yards, attempts) stay constant, but the context around them shifts by format. Your tracking should flex with it.

Why one platform should handle both

Plenty of programs run flag and tackle across a season or an age group. Jumping between two different stat tools is a headache nobody needs. Blitz Board Stats was built from the ground up for flag football, with full tackle support when your program needs it: same rosters, same leaderboards, same workflow.
