Admin, Coach, Statistician, Guardian, Fan: Who Can Do What
Blitz Board StatsOctober 28, 20264 min read
Every flag football program has more people around it than players on the field. There's the person who pays the bill, the coach who runs the roster, the parent with a phone on the sideline, the grandparent watching from three states away. Each one needs something different from your stats, and none of them should be able to change what they only came to see.
That's why Blitz Board Stats gives every person a role. Here's what each one can do, and how to set your program up so the right people have the right access.
The five roles at a glance
- Admin: full control of the organization. Manages the org profile, billing, team and season setup, and assigns Coaches.
- Coach: full access to their team. Manages the roster, schedule, and staff, and assigns Statisticians.
- Statistician: tracks live games for the team a Coach assigns them to.
- Guardian: view-only access to their own athlete's stats, by invitation only.
- Fan: view-only access to live games and leaderboards.
The short version: Admins run the program, Coaches run the team, Statisticians run the game, and Guardians and Fans follow along.
Admin: the program owner
The Admin is usually an athletic director, league organizer, or club director. They set up the organization, create teams and seasons, and handle billing, including paying by card or requesting an invoice.
One thing worth knowing: an organization subscription does not attach teams automatically. After the subscription is set, the Admin attaches each team to the organization. If a coach says their team isn't showing as covered, that's the first place to look.
Coach: the team lead
Coaches own everything about their team: the roster, the schedule, and the staff. They invite guardians, and they decide who keeps stats. A Coach can track stats too, which is handy for smaller teams where the coach is also the scorekeeper.
Statistician: the game day specialist
A Statistician's job is focused on purpose. They track live games for the team they're assigned to, play by play, and fix mistakes live or after the game ends. It's the right role for a parent volunteer, a team manager, or a student statistician who shouldn't be editing rosters or billing.
The best habit here: one statistician per game. Two people tracking the same game creates duplicate entries. The statistician quick-start guide covers the rest of game day.
Guardian and Fan: the people in the stands
Guardians and Fans are view-only. They can't track or edit stats, so the numbers stay exactly as your statistician logged them.
- Guardians see their own athlete's stats. Access is invitation-only: a guardian can't see an athlete until a Coach or Admin invites them.
- Co-Guardians are a second parent or family member. Once a guardian is set up, they can add a co-guardian by name and email, and the co-guardian follows the same athlete.
- Fans follow live games and leaderboards.
That split matters most for youth and club programs, where families want to follow along and young athletes' data needs protecting.

- Admin creates the organization, teams, and seasons, sets up billing, and attaches each team.
- Admin assigns a Coach to each team.
