How Blitz Board Stats Keeps Young Athletes' Data Private

Parents love seeing their kid's name on a leaderboard. They're a lot less excited about a stranger seeing it. When you track stats for young athletes, you're handling names, birthdays, photos, and game history for kids, and families deserve to know who can see it.
Here's how Blitz Board Stats keeps young athletes' data private, and what coaches and parents can do to keep it that way.
Invitation-only, from the start
Nobody wanders into a team's stats. Access in Blitz Board Stats is invitation-only: a Coach or Admin invites each guardian for a specific athlete and team. Until that invite is accepted, the athlete's profile and team details stay private.
If a parent says they can't see their child's profile, the fix is almost always the same: ask the Coach or Admin to send or resend the invite.
Room for both parents
One guardian per athlete doesn't fit every family. Once a guardian is set up, they can add a co-guardian, like a second parent or a grandparent, by name and email. The co-guardian gets their own invite and follows the same athlete. Because the first guardian already gave consent, the co-guardian doesn't have to give it again.
Athletes under 13 stay anonymous
For younger athletes there's an extra layer. Athletes under 13 show as "Unknown player" to other families until their guardian opts in. Their stats still count for the team, and their own family still sees everything. Other families just don't see their name.
View-only means view-only
Guardians and Fans can look but can't change anything. Guardians get view-only access to their own athlete's stats. Fans see live games and leaderboards. Only Coaches and the Statisticians they assign can track stats, so the numbers families see are the numbers that were logged.
Compliance you can point to
When a school or district asks, here's what you can tell them:
- COPPA compliant, with guardian consent built in
- SDPC certified
- National Data Privacy Agreement executed
That's the paperwork high school programs and districts usually need before they'll approve a new platform.
What coaches can do
- Double-check athlete details before saving: names, emails, and dates of birth carry through to rosters, stats, and reports.
- Invite one guardian per athlete from the roster upload, so every family has access on day one.
- Athletes 13 and older can be invited directly with their own login.
- Only invite the people who need access. A short, accurate list is easier to manage than a long one.
The athlete profile guide walks through invitations and profile setup step by step.
